Statistics of SSC Examination
Enrolment of SSC Examination
Enrolment of Candidates for any examination
may not be deemed a true yardstick for determining the pass percentage.
A considerable number of candidates remain absent in the examination or
pull themselves out of the examination. The exact pass percentages can
be calculated by considering the total number of candidates appeared in
all the subjects and number of candidate passed in the examination. The
candidature of the Rawalpindi Board for the year 1999 to 2003 is given
below.
It may be noted that the enrolment
for the year 2003 is 25431(candidates more, than the year 1999).
The increase is 33.23%. Table-1 clearly shows that the drop out
in Rawalpindi Board in 1999 was 1.29%, 1.31% in 2000 1.08% 2001
0.67% in 2002, and 0.72% in 2003. It was maximum in 2000, i.e.1.31%.
Its means that improved examination policy is the major factor to
decrease the dropout tendency and increase the enrolment of candidates
for Rawalpindi Board.
Pass Percentage
Comparison of the pass percentage
of Secondary School Certificate Examination for the years, 1999, 2000,
2001, 2002 and 2003 is as under.

The Pass percentage for the
year 2002 is 2.80% which is 6.19%, 3.41% and 6.49% and higher than
2001, 2000,1999 and 2003.
Private Vs Regular Candidates
The number of private students appeared
in SSC Annual Examination 2003, 2002, 2001, 2000 and 1999 is higher than
Regular Student for the same years. Pass percentage of candidates appearing
as regular from 1999 to 2003 has gone higher.

It may be noted that the pass
percentage of private candidates for the years 1999, 2000, 2001,
2002 and 2003 is less as compared to Regular Students for the same
years.Table-3 supports this observation. The pass percentage of
regular candidates for Secondary School Certificate Annual Examination
2003 is 63.46 % where as it is only 28.47% for private candidates.
Students Achievements
The performance and achievements of students,
who appeared in the Secondary School Certificate examination in
1999, 2000, 2001, 2002 and 2003, is clearly depicted by the Table-4.

Grading Achievement
It may be mentioned here that indication
of number of grades alone is not enough to express the actual degree of
performance and achievements of the candidates of SSC for the last five
years. A useful and more convincing method of comparing the achievements
of students quantitatively is determination of grade per thousand candidates
who appear in all subjects.
Table 5 and graph once again
support the previous observation that new policies have facilitated
the candidates to achieve higher grades in 2003, 2002, 2001, 2000,
as compared to 1999.
Grading Achievement (Regular
Vs Private)
It is worth mentioning here
that only pass percentage of regular and private candidates is not
sufficient to assess the quality of performance. It is important
to analyze the grades achieved by over all candidates, which is
presented in table-6.
It is quite evident from table-6
that the grades achieved by regular candidates has always been better
than that of private candidates. The grade achieved by regular candidates
in 2000,2001, 2002 and 2003 are better than private candidates.
Male Vs Female Candidates
The Result Gazettes of Secondary
School Certificate Annual Examinations 1999,2000,2001, 2002 and 2003 support
the fact that the participation of Male candidate is 57.88%, 58.86%, 58.16%,
57.89% and 58.64% respectively which the participation percentage of Female
candidates for these years is 42.11, 41.13, 41.83, 42.10 and 41.35.
The pass percentage comparison
of Male and Female candidates for the SSC Annual examinations 1999-2003
shows that although the number of Male candidate is increasing constantly
throughout these four years, the pass percentage of Female candidates
is much better than that of Male candidates. Again the pass percentage
of Female candidates is 20.36% which is higher than that of pass
percentage of Male candidates for the year 2003 and it has been
18.74% higher in 1999,18.35% in 2000,14.86% in 2001 and 14.00% in
2002.

Grade Achievement Male
Vs Female
For the Secondary School Certificate
Annual Examinations 1999-2003, participation rate pass percentage and
grades achievement of Male Vs Female students is shown in the Table-8.
The grad wise position of Female candidates is higher
than that of Male candidates for these years.
Grade Achievement /1000
Male Vs Female
The pass percentage of Male Vs Female
candidates is not sufficient to assess the quality of performance. Hence
a useful and more convincing method for comparison of the achievement
of grade of students per thousand who appeared in all the subjects, is
given in Table-9.
It is clear from the above table 9
that the achievement of grade A+, A, B,C,D, for female candidates
is constantly increasing.
Science Group Vs
General Group
The above table and graph show, that
the pass percentage of science group is much higher than that of
general group candidates for the last four years, which reflects
that candidates of science group are more serious in their studies
as compared to the students of general group. It can also be concluded
from the above table that participation of science candidates is
very much less than that of general group for the last four years.

Variability
in Pass Percentage of Various Subjects
It is easily understandable
that there is variability in pass percentage of different subjects
for different years. The pass percentage of English declines in
years 2000 and 2001 as compared to years 1999, 2002 and 2003. As
far as the pass percentage of Urdu, Pak Studies, Ist (Comp) and
Math is concerned it decreases in 2001 as compared to 1999, 2000,
2002 and 2003. There is no notable change in Physics, Chemistry,
Biology, Food and Nutrition, Electric Wiring, Furniture and Cabinet
Making for the years 2003, There is notable change in Computer Science
in which Number of Students has Increased every year.

Unfair Means Cases
The number of unfair means cases registered
in a Board during an examination is a good indicator of the degree
of malpractices in the examinations system. Most of the cases were
registered against the candidates for adopting unfair means during
the conduct of examinations but some were detected during the evaluation
of scripts and preparation of results. The data for UMCs for the
last four years is as under.
This Table shows that in Rawalpindi
Board the number of UMCs has sharply fallen in 2003 as compared
to 2002, 2001,2000 and 1999. The number of UMCs in 2003 was only
17. It clearly indicates the effectiveness of the remedial measures
taken by the Board authorities under the direction of the Govt of
Punjab.
The graph in this regard is given below.
